You have:

Completion of secondary education. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Design, Visual Arts, International Relations, Public Relations, Cooperation and Diplomacy, New Media, Transmedia, Marketing and Advertising or related fields.
At least seven (7) years of experience at national and/or international level in communications.
Minimum of four (4) years of specific experience in developing communication strategies with a thematic focus on peacebuilding, sustainable development, food security, humanitarian assistance or international cooperation.
Experience in formulating, managing, editing, and positioning standard and multimedia content on traditional and digital communication platforms.
Experience in engaging with institutional stakeholders, media, and community leaders.
Solid computer skills, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator).
Demonstrated understanding of communication techniques and activities and knowledge of the socio-political context in which humanitarian or development work is carried out.
Experience providing personalized guidance or training in their area of ​​specialization to staff members.
Experience working in multicultural and social environments with humanitarian, development, youth organizations and/or authorities at different levels.
Experience working with the United Nations system or with international cooperation organizations.
Fluency in Spanish.
English level C1.

CONTEXT :

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), winner of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize, is the world’s largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger. It provides assistance to more than 124 million people in 120 countries and territories. In Colombia, its support to the National Government primarily addresses Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2 and 17, utilizing innovative tools such as cash transfers and local food purchases through farmers’ associations. WFP’s activities in Colombia focus on the most vulnerable populations, including victims of violence, people affected by extreme weather events, migrants and returnees, marginalized communities, and ethnic groups. The goal is to rebuild and strengthen their livelihoods, ensuring they have adequate access to nutritious and diverse diets at all times and increasing their capacity to recover from and adapt to climate crises.

The WFP operates under the principle of the humanitarian and development Nexus, guiding populations impacted by various crises toward recovery that enables them to achieve levels of well-being based on more resilient livelihoods. Progressive support strengthens the capacity of local authorities and communities to implement responsible programs that contribute to reducing food insecurity and malnutrition through a differentiated, territorially focused strategy.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

In fulfillment of its mandate to support the Colombian government and institutions in their efforts to eradicate malnutrition, promote local economic development, and offer transformative and sustainable solutions for peacebuilding and humanitarian emergency management, the World Food Programme has been in Colombia since 1969 and has a territorial presence in 15 departments of the country through eight area offices and satellites strategically located in Antioquia, Arauca, Córdoba, Chocó, La Guajira, Nariño, Norte de Santander, and Valle del Cauca. Its activities are closely aligned with the national government’s priorities for addressing humanitarian assistance, recovery, development, and peacebuilding needs.

To promote and position its projects, activities, and scope, WFP implements communication strategies that enhance the visibility of its initiatives and maintain the organization’s reputation. To contribute to the fulfillment of the roadmap, address communication needs, and amplify the impact of its actions, a professional is required to manage the processes of generating and disseminating information to diverse internal and external audiences.

The incumbent reports to the National Communications Officer, serving the purposes of the World Food Programme in Colombia and in line with the overall communications plan and organizational objectives. They must independently undertake specialized technical tasks, such as the planning, implementation, and evaluation of communications initiatives, establishing and achieving clear and measurable goals. The incumbent must consistently demonstrate a high degree of responsibility in satisfactorily resolving inquiries and challenges and must possess the necessary skills and technical knowledge to adapt and implement communications processes to continuously improve the organization’s positioning.

AIM:

Develop specialized communication activities contributing to the formulation, production and dissemination of impactful content (products, services and campaigns) that maintain and improve the reputation and visibility of the World Food Programme in Colombia and that contribute to the mobilization of funds and resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design and implement specialized communication activities and processes to support the timely preparation and implementation of communication campaigns for target audiences. 2. Liaise with the media and other key stakeholders, providing primary recipients with a regular source of information and messages on the activities, policies, and operations of the World Food Programme. 3. Plan events, ensuring the availability of appropriate materials, services, resources, equipment, and plans. 4. Provide substantive expert support and recommendations to strengthen the quality of communication products in various formats and for diverse audiences and channels. 5. Closely monitor traditional media, digital media, and social networks, and disseminate relevant information to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies. 6. Prepare content in Spanish and English for use on traditional media platforms, social media, and other internal and external channels to enhance the reach and support for the World Food Programme’s activities, while maintaining consistency with organizational messaging and the brand manual. 7. Conduct research, make recommendations, and provide assistance regarding the development of content used on communication platforms and networks to broaden support and funding for the World Food Programme’s actions, ensuring cost-effectiveness and the effective placement of key messages. 8. Promote and provide guidance on communication guidelines to ensure the implementation of fundamental policies and procedures. 9. Ensure that relevant information is collected, stored, and managed in appropriate databases and files so that accurate records are accessible to other individuals and institutions. 10. Manage a wide range of daily inquiries and requests for information from internal and external stakeholders, using your expertise to respond in a timely and appropriate manner. 11. Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external audiences to keep them informed of important information and implement harmonized and consistent communication processes and activities. 12. Contribute to the improvement of communication methods and actions to enhance their effectiveness and raise awareness among the media and other stakeholders about the work of the World Food Programme. 13.14. Consolidate quantitative and qualitative analysis processes of information disseminated in the media and on social networks to evaluate the reach of key messages and their impact on the public agenda. 15. Facilitate the coordination of the Communications Unit’s work team and the integration of interdisciplinary skills to generate effective and comprehensive products. 16. Other duties as requested by the supervisor related to the position.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

1. Design, implement, and monitor comprehensive communication strategies focused on working with communities, ensuring a participatory, intercultural, and evidence-based approach that strengthens public relations, promotes sustainable behavioral change, and contributes to social impact processes. This includes coordinating with key stakeholders, adapting messages to local contexts, managing communication channels, and evaluating the impact of actions.

2. Develop graphic and multimedia materials, as well as life stories and profiles, according to the communications plan or current situations that may arise.

3. Support administrative, logistical and operational processes related to the management of the Communications Unit, following the values ​​and principles of the organization.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Completion of secondary education. Post-secondary education certificate in the relevant functional field (undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, Design, Visual Arts, International Relations, Public Relations, Cooperation and Diplomacy, New Media, Transmedia, Marketing and Advertising, or related studies). Postgraduate certificate (Specialization, Master’s degree, or higher) in related areas.

Experience:

At least seven (7) years of experience at the national and/or international level in communications.
Minimum four (4) years of specific experience in the development of communication strategies with a thematic focus on peacebuilding, sustainable development, food security, humanitarian assistance or international cooperation.
Experience in formulating, managing, editing and positioning standard and multimedia content on traditional and digital communication platforms.
Experience in dialogue with institutional actors, media and community leaders.
Solid computer skills, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator).
